What is a whelping box?
A whelping box (also known as a birthing box), is an enclosed area for a bitch and her puppies after pregnancy. The front of the whelping box is lower than the sides and back and this allows the mother dog to freely come and go from the whelping box whilst still being high enough to confine the pups.
There are 4 metal rails fitted near the inside walls of the whelping box, when puppies are laying against the inner walls, these rails assist in the prevention of the mother dog from laying on the pups and potentially smothering or squashing them.
